Twin Cities Storm Damage

After the storm, start with a free inspection

Twin Cities hail and wind storms don't always leave obvious damage — sometimes a roof looks fine from the ground and still has bruising that will shorten its life. After a storm, Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal comes out, gets on the roof, and gives you an honest assessment of what we find, at no cost.

We install roofs for a living in both metal and asphalt, so we know the difference between normal wear and genuine storm damage — and we tell you plainly which one you have.

What We Look For

What storm damage actually looks like

  • Hail bruising on shingles: soft spots and knocked-off granules that expose the mat underneath, even when the roof looks intact from the driveway.
  • Wind-lifted or missing shingles: shingles creased, torn, or peeled back by high wind, and bare spots where they've blown off entirely.
  • Dented metal: dings in metal panels, vents, and flashing that can open leak paths over time.
  • Gutter, soffit, and fascia damage: dented gutters and downspouts and damaged soffit or fascia that often come with a serious hail event.

None of this is always visible from the ground, which is why a roof-level inspection matters after a storm.

Insurance

How the insurance process works with us

If we find storm damage, we document it thoroughly — photos, measurements, and a clear description of what we saw and where. We give you that documentation and the detail your insurance company needs to evaluate the claim.

You file the claim and you own it — it's your policy and your relationship with your insurer. Our job is to make sure the damage is well documented so nothing gets missed. We don't decide what's covered; your adjuster does. We're glad to be there for the inspection and to answer your questions along the way.

Repair or Replace

We repair when repair is the right call

Not every storm means a new roof. When the damage is limited and a repair will hold up, we repair it — that's the honest answer and usually the cheaper one. See our roof repair service for what that work looks like.

When damage is widespread and replacement is the right path, we lay out your options: a new asphalt roof for your Twin Cities home, or the longer-term metal path.

The Metal Angle

For repeat-hail neighborhoods, metal is the long game

If your neighborhood seems to get hit every few years, a hail-rated metal roof is worth a serious look. Standing seam and metal systems carry high impact ratings and a much longer service life, so you're not back in the claims process after the next big storm. We install metal across the metro — see metal roofing in the Twin Cities.

Common Questions

Storm & Hail Damage Roof Repair in the Twin Cities — FAQs

Should I call my insurance company or a roofer first?

+
Either order works, but a free inspection first gives you documentation before you file, so you go into the process knowing what is actually on your roof.

Is the inspection really free?

+
Yes. The storm inspection and the documentation we provide are free, whether or not you end up filing a claim or hiring us.

How fast can you come out?

+
We schedule storm inspections promptly and give you the soonest available time when you call. After a widespread storm we work through requests as quickly as we can.

Will my insurance cover the damage?

+
We can't promise that — your adjuster decides what's covered under your policy. What we can do is document the damage clearly so your insurer has the detail they need to make that call.

Do you cover or waive my deductible?

+
No. Your deductible is yours to pay, and under Minnesota law a contractor cannot cover or rebate it. Anyone who offers to is a red flag.
