Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal was founded in Cloquet, Minnesota in 2011 by Jeff Collins. Fifteen years later, we operate from two offices, manufacture standing seam metal panels onsite at customer properties, fabricate custom sheet metal in our Cloquet shop, and have built a reputation across Minnesota and Wisconsin for doing roofing work the way it should be done — with trained crews and no shortcuts.

Our Story

Three chapters, one company.

2011 — Founded in Cloquet

Jeff Collins founded Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal in Cloquet, Minnesota in 2011 with a simple goal: build the kind of roofing company he'd want to work for if he weren't running it. From day one, that meant building trained crews committed to manufacturing-grade quality on every project.

2015 — The metal pivot

In 2015, Collins made a decisive bet on metal roofing. We began manufacturing our standing seam system using portable roll-forming equipment — equipment we bring to your property and operate onsite. This wasn't industry-standard at the time, and it still isn't for most contractors. The reason it matters is simple: continuous panels rolled at your property eliminate the endlaps that factory-shipped panels require, which means fewer leak points, longer service life, and a roof installed exactly to your specifications.

2023 — Partnership formalized

Brandon Jones and Brian Spender joined Jeff as partners in the business in 2023. The partnership reflected something that had been true for years already — Brandon and Brian had been instrumental in building the company alongside Jeff for over a decade. Today, Collins operates from two offices: our flagship Cloquet office (Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin) and our Spring Lake Park office (Twin Cities metro and Southern Minnesota).

Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal isn't just a roofing contractor — we're a roofing manufacturer. Our standing seam system is rolled onsite at your property using portable roll-forming equipment, producing continuous panels eave to ridge with no endlaps.

Beyond standing seam, we've engineered ice dam prevention systems that don't rely on heat cables or annual steam removal. Built-up roof decks with rigid foam insulation and engineered ventilation eliminate the conditions ice dams need to form. Most contractors won't take on this work because it requires sheet metal capability, framing experience, and proper insulation specs all in one project.

Over a Decade of Growth

From one office to 64 counties.

What started as a one-office operation in Cloquet has grown into two offices serving most of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our Spring Lake Park office opened to serve the Twin Cities metro and Southern Minnesota. Our Cloquet office serves Northern Minnesota and Wisconsin from the Iron Range to the North Shore to Northern Wisconsin.

The growth has been steady, project-driven, and relationship-based. We don't expand into markets we can't actually serve — every territory we cover is a place our crews can drive to and back in a day, where we know the building codes and climate conditions, and where we can stand behind our installations long after they're complete.

Today Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal serves 64 counties across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Growth continues to be organic — driven by referrals, completed projects, and reputation rather than aggressive expansion.

The Partners

The three of them set the standards.

Jeff Collins is the founder and senior partner. Fifteen years of roofing the Upper Midwest have given him a deep understanding of what works in Minnesota and Wisconsin climate conditions, what fails, and what the industry tries to sell that doesn't actually solve the underlying problem.

Brandon Jones runs operations and crews. His ability to organize complex multi-day metal projects across two territories is the reason Collins delivers on schedule even on the most logistically demanding installations.

Brian Spender heads up sales and customer service. He genuinely enjoys getting to know customers over a cup of coffee and being their go-to contact through the whole project. On top of that, he manages and coaches the rest of the sales team.

Together, the three of them set the standards every Collins crew works to.
