Asphalt Shingle Roofing in the Twin Cities
Tear-off shingle replacement for Twin Cities homes — most finished in a single day.
Twin Cities Asphalt Roofing
Tear-off asphalt replacement, done in a day
When your shingles reach the end of their life, Collins Roofing & Sheet Metal replaces them with a full tear-off — down to the deck, never a layover. We work across the Twin Cities metro from our Spring Lake Park office, and most single-family homes are torn off and re-roofed in a single day.
We install roofs for a living in both metal and asphalt. When you call us for shingles, you get a crew that does this every week — clean tear-offs, careful deck work, and a job site that looks better when we leave than when we arrived.
Our Process
How a Collins tear-off works
- Arrival and protection: we cover landscaping, siding, and windows and set up ground tarps and haul-away staging before a single shingle comes off.
- Full tear-off: every layer of old shingle comes off down to the wood deck. We don't roof over old shingles — stripping to the deck is what lets us see and deal with what's underneath.
- Deck inspection: with the deck exposed, we check for damaged or soft sheathing and replace what needs replacing so your new roof starts on a sound surface.
- Underlayment and details: we install underlayment, ice-and-water protection at the eaves and valleys, and new flashing where it belongs.
- Shingle installation: your selected GAF shingles go on with matching ridge cap and proper ventilation components.
- Same-day cleanup: we haul away the old roof, run a magnet sweep for stray nails, and walk the property with you before we leave.
Shingles & Color
GAF shingles and color selection
Collins is a GAF Certified Contractor, and we install GAF Timberline architectural shingles in the full color range. Color is one of the few roofing decisions you'll live with for decades, so we help you see real options against your home's siding and trim before you commit.

Asphalt or metal? An honest comparison
Asphalt is the right call for a lot of Twin Cities homes — a lower upfront cost and, installed well, a dependable roof. It's also a shorter-lived roof: a quality asphalt roof is a 20-to-30-year decision, and you'll replace it again down the road.
Metal is the longer-term answer. A standing seam metal roof is a 50-year-plus system with a higher upfront cost and a much longer horizon before you think about roofing again. We install both, so we give you the straight version for your home instead of steering you toward one product.
If you want to weigh the metal path, start with metal roofing across the Twin Cities or our standing seam service page.
