Up in the Arrowhead Region, a roof has to work harder than almost anywhere else in the country. Between the massive snow accumulation and the intense freeze-thaw cycles of St. Louis County, traditional roofing materials often reach their breaking point long before they should. For this Ely Green Project, the goal was to provide a permanent barrier that could handle the weight of a Northwoods winter.
The choice of an Evergreen finish was intentional. In a town like Ely, aesthetics matter just as much as performance. The deep green hue complements the surrounding pines, while the standing seam construction provides the technical reliability needed for remote locations. Because metal is naturally fire-resistant, it also provides an added layer of safety for homes situated in heavily forested areas.
One of the biggest challenges in Ely is snow retention and ice damming.
- On-Site Roll Forming: We brought our mobile factory to the site to create continuous panels. This removes the horizontal laps where ice typically gets a foothold.
- Shedding Capability: The vertical ribs and smooth surface allow heavy snow to slide off safely, preventing the structural stress that often leads to roof collapses on older homes.
- Concealed Fasteners: By hiding the screws beneath the metal panels, we protect the attachment points from the moisture and sub-zero temperatures that cause hardware to fail.
Investing in a standing seam metal roof means this homeowner likely won't have to think about their roof again for the next 50 years. In a region where finding contractors can be difficult due to distance, choosing a durable, maintenance-free material is the smartest financial move a property owner can make.
