Our story

My name is Jeff Collins, and I founded Collins Roofing and Sheet Metal on November 4th, 2011. At the time, I had just finished my college degree in education and was planning on becoming a teacher. But after some soul-searching, I realized that the classroom wasn’t where I was meant to be. I felt a strong pull toward business ownership — not just as a career path, but as a way to challenge myself, take risks, and grow in ways I never imagined. I believed entrepreneurship would stretch me, and it has — both personally and professionally — in the best possible ways.

What began as a small operation has now grown into a thriving company with two locations and a team of highly skilled professionals. Together, we've built something I'm incredibly proud of — a company grounded in craftsmanship, service, and integrity. Every member of our team shows up with a sense of ownership and pride in what we do, which continues to push us beyond the original vision I had back in 2011.

In 2015, we made a major shift that changed the trajectory of our company: we began manufacturing our own steel roofing panels and trims. This move allowed us to take full control over the quality and performance of our metal roofing systems. It also opened the door to innovation — especially in our development of ventilation-based systems and foam-insulated solutions designed to prevent ice dam formation, a common issue in our harsh Midwest winters. These innovations set us apart and gave our customers options they couldn’t find anywhere else.

As our reputation grew, so did the scope of our projects. What started as a primarily residential roofing company evolved into a full-scale operation taking on commercial and industrial projects across Minnesota and Wisconsin. Our ability to adapt, specialize, and solve problems is what has allowed us to serve such a broad range of clients — from homeowners to facility managers and business owners.

In early 2023, the company entered a new and exciting chapter when Brian Spender and Brandon Jones joined as business partners. Their unique strengths and perspectives brought fresh energy and insight to our operations. The combined leadership of the three of us has strengthened our ability to scale, innovate, and better serve our customers while creating more opportunities for our growing team.
